I’ve been interested in Home Studio Recording since the 1980s – earlier if I’m being honest – as I built my first modular synthesiser in 1977 (an Elector Formant that I wish I still had!) and progressed through Atari ST’s and a whole range of gear up to more recently Reason.
My other interest since school was woodworking, so when I had the chance to create a wood workshop after my move to Cornwall, it gave me the opportunity to combine my love of home studio music with woodworking – HomeStudioRack was the obvious outcome.
My aim is to create studio racks, furniture or acessories that meet the needs of home studio musicians and audiophiles like myself. Of course the furniture doesn’t have to be used in studios, and I’m happy to look at designs for other uses, and I’ve made cabinets for gyms, and offices too.
Whatever I make, I aim to make it with the utmost care, attention to detail and to the best quality I can. Sometimes this means I’m not the cheapest, as I don’t use the cheapest materials (I use the best I can get) – but it does mean your home studio rack product will last a lifetime.
I pride myself on being able to custom make speaker stands, rack units, risers, cabinets to meet your requirements. I always create and send you sketches first (free design service!), so that we can discuss the design and make changes at the earliest stage before committing to production. Sometimes this process might take us through a few iterations, but that’s OK, as it means we’re both happy with the product design before I start making anything.
I work mostly with 18mm birch plywood, as I find the material strong, stable and consistent, but let me know if you have any other material you’d like to use.
